HCC Weekly Devo - May 20th

Bible Study/Quiet Time/Priority Time

Pastor Joy

Every Sunday we are encouraged and challenged to get into God's word and to study it, meditate on it, read it, and use it. The Bible is the only infallible and accurate representation of how to live life. We have this incredible body of text given to us to bring us closer to the Lord. It is our guide as we walk this earth, a fallen and sinful world that seems to always want to bring harm and destruction. The Bible has life for us, abundant in His promises.

This year, the worship team and I have been going through a chronological study of God's word. This study asks us, as we read through the Bible, to primarily focus on who God is in the pages we read.

It starts with a short devotional that gives 5 prayers to start:

1. God, give me wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

2. Let any knowledge I gain help me love You and others more, and not puff me up.

3. Help me see something new about You that I've never seen before.

4. Correct any lies I believe about You or anything I misunderstood.

5. Direct my steps according to Your word. Amen.

I've been learning that this relationship I have with God grows bigger and deeper the more I learn about Him and His character. I speak to Him through my prayers and He speaks to me through His word. The word of God is living and breathing.

Today I read in Psalm 103:

Verse 13 The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. 14 For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are dust. 15 Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. 16 The wind blows, and we are gone-- as though we had never been here. 17 But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children's children 18 of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!

Church family! Open your bible! Get to know this God of yours! He loves you and desires intimacy with his children! He has salvation and love for his children!

Amen and Amen!
