Pastor Ken
Daniel 9:4-5 (NIV)
I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: “Lord, the great and awesome God, who deeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your command and laws.”
You often hear me say that, in the New Testament, the word “confess” is synonymous with agreement. The same idea exists in the Old Testament, but with a twist: It’s the
imagery of a stone being thrown into water.
What happens when you throw a stone into water? It sinks without exception, 100% of the time. This illustrates the context of Daniel’s confession; that which is true 100% of the time.
In Daniel’s prayer, he makes a number of confessions.
- 100% of the time, we are “wicked,” which means we are solely responsible for our own sins. While temptation exists outside of us, ultimately, our choices
determine our actions.
-100% of the time, we are “rebellious,” which means our sins always impact God,
even when they do not directly affect others.
But on the flip side
- 100% of the time, God is “great.” He is perfect, and His ways are flawless.
-100% of the time, God is “awesome.” He is fearsome and commands reverence.
-100% of the time, God “keeps His covenant of love” He is faithful to those who are faithful to Him.
Today, I challenge you to think of these truths. Allow them to navigate how you approach God in faith, in prayer, and in service.
Have a great Monday.
