Pastor Joy
Today marks day 258 of our Bible study. We’ve been reading through the bible for 258 days now...that’s incredible! Congratulations and keep going! If you haven’t joined us and would like to start, on October 1st we will be starting the New Testament. You can check out the bible reading plan and how to join us on thebiblerecap.com/start.
This year we have been reading through the bible from beginning to end. Every day we read a portion of scripture, review the scriptures, and then we find our “God Shot” (how we see the character of God in what we’ve read). The God Shot has been the hardest part for me. I believe it’s because I tend to read the bible looking for myself in the scriptures, looking for how I fit in the scriptures. Comparing myself to the different characters and people. But that's not the point of this reading plan.
Looking for God’s character, learning more of who God is, that is what we find in the scripture through this study. Why is learning about the character of God so important? For believers, knowing God’s character is essential to our daily living.
Ask yourself these important questions:
-How can I trust someone I don’t know?
-Where do I place my hope if I don’t know the person that gives me hope?
-How do I love others when I don’t understand the very creator of love?
My relationship with God, the foundation of my faith, direction for living, my focus for worship, assurance and hope in my future, and the ability to discern truth all comes from personally knowing the character of God.
1John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Lamentations 3:22-23 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Isaiah 6:3 Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory.
Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.
Psalm 103:8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
Malachi 3:6 I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.
Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
As you continue to read the bible pray that the Holy Spirit would reveal more of God’s character to you so that you would grow deeper in relationship with him. Pray that you would understand more the character and nature of the God of this universe who chose you and who created you. You are his beloved.
