Pastor Ken
I Peter 4:7 (NIV)
Therefore, stay alert and clear-minded so you can pray.
Peter’s instruction centers around having the right state of mind in prayer. For example, “alert and clear-minded” praying conveys concentrating on aligning yourself with the will of God.
To illustrate, consider the story of David and Goliath. From a self-focused and emotional perspective, David was way out of his element; his circumstances were overwhelming. Had Peter been present to offer Davod advice, I believe he would’ve said something like this: “Clear your head of self-centered and emotional thinking. It’s the small prayer of faith which overcomes the largest of circumstances and it’s the weak prayer of faith that topples the strongest giant!”
Perhaps you’re currently facing your own “Goliath. If so, then stop focusing solely upon your own resources and your emotions. Instead focus on the promises, the reassurances, and the power of God’s Word.
And have a great Monday!
