Patriot’s Day

This past Friday was Patriot’s Day.

There are so many people that can tell you exactly where they were when the attacks on September 11th, 2001 happened. Personally, I was not old enough to remember, but I have heard the stories from my friends and family members and I cannot imagine the fear and confusion that came with that event, and it is today, on Patriot’s Day, that we remember the loss that happened on that day.

But, along with that air of confusion and fear, something else grew among the American people, a sense of unity. Unity to help others near us and across the country. This is very similar to the Christian faith. All of us have experienced a life changing faith moment that leads us to belief in Christ. This experience is different among believers, but it all has the same roots.

Romans 8:28-30 NLT “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself, he gave them his glory.”

We can be united as Christian brothers and sisters, and remember that God chose us to be his people. That no matter the trials that face our personal lives, professional lives, or American lives, God has a plan and a purpose for all things.

Church family, this week I pray for those who experienced a loss during those attacks that happened on September 11th, 2001. I also pray for unity in the Christian community, that whatever attacks may come, we remember that we can all be united as one because we have been called according to your wonderful purpose. Amen.
