Solomon and the Temple
Pastor Rachael
Solomon was the king of Israel after David. When David was king, he had wanted to build a temple to the Lord, but God told him no.
“When your time comes and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He will build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” (2 Samuel 7:12-13). God said that his son, Solomon, would be the one to build the temple.
The temple was a very impressive building - it had taken seven years for the temple to be completed! The entire interior was cedar and everything inside was covered in gold and it was fully furnished with everything that was needed.
But why was the temple so important? It was where God physically met with His people, and it gave His people a more permanent place to worship Him. However, in these Biblical times, only the priests could approach God on behalf of the people. But everything came when Jesus arrived.
Matthew 27:51 says, “When Jesus died, the curtain in the Temple was torn into two pieces. The tear started at the top and tore all the way to the bottom.” What an amazing feat! The death of Jesus made it so that anyone can approach God - not just the priests!
This week church, I urge you to remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us upon the cross and how because of Him, we have complete access to God.
Have a blessed Monday!
