Pastor David

We are coming up to the season of Halloween celebrations and it’s always a time of year where Christians argue on whether it’s something that the universal church as a whole should participate in. The main argument against participating is because it is seen as a night that celebrates darkness and the demonic.

So, no matter where you land on this issue, I thought it would be a good time to go through what scripture tells us to do when it comes to standing up against demonic forces.

1. Put on the Full Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-12- A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

2. Resist the Devil

James 4:7 - So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

3. Pray

Mark 9:29 takes place after Jesus casts out a demon that the disciples couldn’t and the disciples ask why: Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer."

4. Call on the Name and Authority of Jesus Christ

After a demonically oppressed woman followed Paul around and annoyed him through prophecy, Paul turns around and says: Acts 16:18b- “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And instantly it left her.

Scripture shows us how we are to handle the forces of darkness and even gives us tools on how to fight them. We don’t need to fear them because, through Christ, we already have victory over them. And there is that saying that goes something like “when Satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future”
