Pastor David

Yesterday we had our annual business meeting where the board and the staff had the chance to be transparent with the income and spending done by the church in 2025. Which makes this a great time to examine our generosity.

You can debate whether we are to give a tithe to the church under the new covenant we’re in, but you can’t debate that we have a mandate to be generous whether that is a lot of generosity or a little (2 Corinthians 9:6-7-Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.)

As you continue reading this passage you see language that seems to indicate that when we give God will increase our income, not to become rich but so we can give more. Meaning God will provide for our needs and then some so our generosity can increase.

So, how is your generosity, not just to this church but in general as well. If you are examining yourself and realizing that your generosity is lacking, do you need to take a step of faith in giving so that God can provide?

As you look at improving or changing your generosity habits, consider being generous to your church family. When you give to the church it helps sponsor youth to go to camps and trips when their own family might be dealing with a financial hurdle. It buys Bible study curriculum and opportunities for the church to host fellowship events (like our variety show coming up this next month). It provides food for our youth in their connect meetings. It helps fund the ministries of over 26 missionaries around the world. It puts money in the benevolence fund when we have a stranger walking in off the street needing help with rent or gas to get to the next town. It buys sound equipment for the worship team and pays for air conditioning units so it isn't stifling in the sanctuary in July.

I’ll leave you with a figure. According to some studies done on church giving: 100% of church giving is done by 10-25% of the church's congregation. If we apply that metric to our church (we average around 130 people), that would mean that only 32 people in our congregation are paying the bills, sponsoring the youth, funding the benevolence program and supporting the over 26 missionaries we support. Imagine what our ministries would look like if we could double that to 64 or 65 people who give…
