Leviticus 25:3-5 (NIV)
For six years sow your fields, and for six years prune your vineyards and gather their crops. But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards…The land is to have a year of rest.
Leviticus 25:18-19
‘Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land. Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and live there in safety.
In Leviticus 25, God gave Israel instruction on how to farm the land, promising them success provided they follow His instructions which included given the land “rest” every seventh year.
Today we know the benefits of giving land a season of rest, but the ancient Hebrews didn’t know this; they didn’t have our agricultural understanding. So, from their perspective, God’s commands probably made no sense.
The Hebrews had to resolve to follow God’s directive by faith and not by logic. And that pattern has not changed. While we may not always understand God’s commands, we must remember that they are never arbitrary. His commands reflect His desire to see us succeed.
Prayer is one such act of obedience. Humanly speaking, prayer can seem like nothing more than a religious ritual and a waste of time. But the Bible says that prayer is the conduit that brings God’s desires into your life and into your circumstances. Take the time to pray today. Allow God to pour into you nothing less than His very best.
