Leviticus 25:18-19 (NIV)

Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land. Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and live there in safety.

Leviticus 25:18-19 is God’s promise of safety, provision, and abundance to Israel, provided she obey His commands. In this instance, His commands addressed how the land was to be farmed. Every seventh year was to be a Sabbath year for the land whereby nothing was to be planted; the land must be permitted to rest.

Today we know the benefits of giving land a season of rest, but the ancient Hebrews didn’t know this. Therefore, from their perspective, God’s commands concerning the land wouldn’t have made any sense. It would’ve clashed with their logic.

Therefore, Israel was faced with the challenge of obeying God even when His commands did not make sense - and that pattern has not changed for us today. You may not always understand God’s commands, they may not be logical to you. However, you must keep in mind that His commands are never arbitrary but rather they reflect His constant desire to keep you in safety, provision, and abundance.

Prayer is one such act of obedience. Prayer may not always make sense. From a human perspective, it may seem like a waste of time or a meaningless religious ritual. But the Bible says that prayer is the conduit which brings God’s desires – desires of safety, provision, and abundance – into your life and into your circumstances, here on earth. Take the time to pray today, right now. Allow God to pour into you nothing less than His very best.

And have a great Monday!
