Mary’s Song of Praise
Pastor Rachael
Luke 1:46-49“Mary said, ‘My soul gives glory to the Lord. My spirit delights in God my Savior. He has taken note of me even though I am not considered important. From now on all people will call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me. His name is holy.’”
This is the first part of Mary’s hymn of praise (also called the Magnificat or “my soul magnifies the Lord”). This is a hymn of thanksgiving. In her song, Mary is giving thanks to God for the wonderful blessing that He has provided for her. Luke is the only one of the Gospel writers who recorded her song of praise. Her song speaks to how great her faith in God is.
Luke 1:50-55 “He shows His mercy to those who have respect for Him, from parent to child down through the years. He has done mighty things with His powerful arm. He has scattered those who are proud in their deepest thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones. But He has lifted up people who are not considered important. He has filled with good things those who are hungry. But He has sent away empty those who are rich. He has helped the people of Israel who serve Him. He has always remembered to be kind to Abraham and his children through the years. He has done it just as He promised to our people of long ago.”
And in that moment, God is fulfilling the promise that He made to His people in Isaiah 7:14 “The Lord Himself will give you a sign. The virgin is going to have a baby. She will give birth to a son. And He will be called Immanuel.”
This week, I encourage you to remember the promises that God has made and rejoice in the many blessings that He has provided to you.
Have a blessed Monday.
