Psalm 23

Pastor Rachael

This week is VBS week! Probably one of the biggest weeks of my year as a children’s pastor. At VBS, we will be taking a three-day deep dive into Psalm 23.

Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

This chapter in the book of Psalms, written by King David, can portray 3 things about God to us.

#1 God is Our Provider -

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:1-3

The Lord will always provide for us. He will always guide us to the best things and veer us away from the bad. Like a shepherd to his sheep, God will always provide for us.

#2 God is Our Protector -

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

God will protect us. It can be from our situations, our circumstances, or even ourselves. Like a shepherd to his sheep, God will always protect us.

#3 God is Our Comforter

You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:5-6

God will comfort us. When we are surrounded by the evil of this world, God is there. His goodness and love(mercy) will follow us all the days of our lives. Like a shepherd to his sheep, God will always comfort us.

Please take a moment this week to pray over our VBS that will be happening from Tue-Thurs of this week. Pray for endurance, patience and energy for our volunteers. Pray for open minds, calm bodies, and full hearts for the children. May this event be an amazing discipleship opportunity for those in the community.

Have a blessed week!
