Three Kings
Pastor Joy
As a staff we are continuing to read through various books regarding church, leadership, the gospel message, etc. We rotate through each of us choosing a book and this time around Pastor David chose a book titled A Tale of Three Kings: A Study in Brokenness, by Gene Edward. This book is a fictional account of Saul, David, and Absalom. This book is about hurt when it involves the church. For such a loaded topic, this book is quite small. It reads as if you were watching a play, or a short drama.
The message is simple: When you find yourself dealing with hurt are you a Saul, a David, or an Absalom? How do you choose to handle hurt that is thrown your way, like a spear? Do you throw spears like Saul towards David? Do you dodge spears and refuse to throw them back like David? Do you calculate, scheme, and divide as you wait to throw spears like Absalom?
Galatians 2:20 talks about crucifying yourself with Christ. When we profess ourselves to be followers of Christ, we must fully submit ourselves to the will and plan of God. His ways are higher and better than ours. In this book, if you submit your ways to God, then you wouldn't pick up spears to throw, you wouldn’t scheme and bring division. You would learn to dodge spears and to recognize the supremacy of God in your life. He is the one in control.
This isn’t meant only for church leaders. It applies to how we all handle hurt. Whether you are in leadership in church, your household, or your job, there will always come a time where spears (slander, insults, accusations, wrongs) are thrown at you. You are responsible for your actions.
Search the scriptures for Godly advice in how to handle conflict, pray for those that wound you, seek Godly wisdom in resolution. As you do these things remember to not underestimate God’s ability to intercede and work in and through your circumstances. God is to be trusted in the outcome.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
