Psalm 96:1-3 

Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. 

I see so many instructions here for the Israelites. Sing, proclaim, publish, tell everyone, recognize him, bring your offering. These are commands for his people. And since I am “his people” that's what I must do! That's what YOU must do! We can sing about him, tell others about him, worship him, give him glory, bring offerings to him, and live holy lives. This Psalm tells us to give God the recognition that he deserves every day. Scripture makes it abundantly clear to us why we are to worship, who we are to worship, and helps our hearts learn more and more about the God that loves us so much. 

In 2 Samuel 22, David lists some incredible worship inspiring descriptors of who God is and also speaks about his character as his own song of praise! Let this list be a guide for you to grow in your understanding and relationship with the Lord. 

David says the Lord is my… Rock, Fortress, Savior, Protection, Shield, Power that Saves, Place of Safety, Refuge, Lamp. 

David names these characteristics of God. He is…Saving, Worthy of praise, Hearing, Angry(against enemies), Rescuing, Rewarding, Seeing, Faithful, Showing(revealing) himself, Shrewd, Powerful, Strong, Perfect, Pure, Flawless, Shielding(us from enemies), Giving, Gentle, Preserving, Living. 

Wow, what a list! Take just one or two of these and meditate on them every week! As you go through this list each week, know that you are growing closer in your personal relationship to God. And he rewards those who earnestly seek Him! Praise the Lord!
